2015 Collages
"Our brains are built to wrest familiar meaning from the confusions of the world." - Helen MacDonald, ON NATURE, New York Times, December 20, 2015
Looking through a stack of unfinished, unrealized drawings I had done over the last year, I knew I wanted to keep certain images. Perhaps only a particularly beautiful line, or wash of color would need "saving," some scrap of an idea or image that reminded me of some detail of my life. I began to tear the drawings into whatever sizes would best keep detail, and started adding other fragments to strengthen and clarify what had originally caught my eye.
The collages in this gallery were begun in 2015. The images were all drawn and colored by hand of the artist, using primarily pastel, graphite and black ink on Arches paper, sized 10 x 14 inches. The originals are not yet for sale. Prints can be bought from a limited edition, unframed, for $300.
